Objective of the Project and Research Questions

It is a recent idea that not only car emissions, but also volatile compounds on the roads they drive on, may be polluting the air. Although it is not a revolutionary idea, it is interesting to be shown and could be useful for environmental legislation related to the maintenance of roads.

Background of the Data

A car drove around Poland with a box filled with sensors that measured different vehicle and environmental parameters. Vehicle parameters, such as coolant temperature, engine load, RPM to control for the vehicle influence on the environmental parameters, such as Carbon dioxide levels.

Research questions:

Is there a relationship between CO2 pollution and the quality of the road, temperature, or humidity?

Using the Z-axis of the accelerator the quality of the road can be derived, and we have as well the temperature at that point and humidity. Also, there are measurements of CO2. Putting those things together we should be able to identify the incidence of road quality, temperature, and/or humidity on carbon dioxide levels in the air and map it.

Which factors and at which level affect the quality of the road?

If the quality of the road is indeed polluting the air with CO2, this question is orientated to assess why the quality of the road is not the best and which factors are damaging it.
