The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interconnected computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, artefacts, animals, and people with unique identifiers and the ability to share data without needing human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.The Internet of Things is all about making a smart living without putting in a lot of work. The Internet of Things will usher in a slew of transformational changes.
IoT, according to the Economist, is the Internet's second step, taking the disruptive technology's business model from the digital to the physical world. “By 2035, the world will have a trillion linked machines, built into everything from food packaging to bridges and clothes,” the Economist predicts in a recent problem.
Our project is in the experimentation stage of how IoT and big data can be transformed to extract insightful information at various use cases. The use case for us is Road Quality. In this project, we deal with data from IoT and try to explore whether IoT and the data that it produces in this domain can be used for gaining potential insights about road quality.
A motorbike fitted with numerous sensors rides around few towns in Poland and generates data on various vehicle and environmental parameters. We have such data for one fine day, 17Th December 2019, provided to us by SBI Consulting.
Our research objective is to use data visualisation techniques to comment on the usability of the sensor data collected by the motorbike fitted with sensors to be able to give insightful information.
To achieve our research objective, we have broken it down into few research questions. Since the data is on vehicle parameters and environmental parameters, we want to explore the road quality and air quality of the towns through which the motorbike travelled.
Our primary research question is as follows:
Does Road Quality affects environmental pollution, i.e. causes poor air quality?
