Implementation 1: What do we want to implement?

What came out of our convergence

During two online meetings we converged our designs.

The first step we took was to select out of all of our sketched the ones we really thought that deserved a chance to be implemented. Headlights in this process were:

  1. There was a tendency in all of us to show the potholes as depressions in a line and the CO2 levels as nature growing/or not (trees, flowers)

So, we decided to visualize both of this features in that way: potholes and bumps as depressions and hills in a curve, and levels of CO2 as trees (more big and alive where the levels of CO2 are low)

2. Speed popped up in some sketches, and we agreed on it being related to the quality of the road too; so it is also a feature we kept for visualization.

3. Showing the quality road and levels of CO2 in lapsus was also considered, but discarded. Since time is in a span of two hours in our data set, this circular visualization is not much illustrative.

How to show the selected features in one visualization?

Summarizing, we want to show:

  • Potholes and bumps as depressions and hills in a line (we call it "road line")

  • Trees as an indicator of CO2 at different points in the road

  • The speed of the vehicle related to the road quality (bumps and potholes)

  • If possible add more information about other parameters, such as humidity or temperature

A first idea is to include the speed as colours in the road line:

This same concept can be shown in an area:

And it was discussed also that we could do both in the same visualization; showing the road line on top, and below the area, displaying points and information about it when the cursor is positioned above the corresponding point in the road line.
