We started the 3FM project, because we, Dishani, Natalia, Ladan and Piet, worry about global warming and the climate change.
Worrying is not enough, we also have to act. But as the saying 'Think before you act' states, we first thought about the effect of road quality on fuel consumption as well as greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions.
And so we ended up driving on a motorcycle, stuffed with sensors, that measured potholes and bumps (as indicators of road quality), and the Carbon dioxide concentration (as an indicator of pollution).
Finding a relation between Road Quality and Carbon dioxide pollution, underpins the need for Ecorouting systems, that are advanced navigation systems that provide users the ability to select routes that the pollutes the least, next to the shortest-distance route or the shortest-duration route.
